The California Association of Blind Students

Introduction

Welcome to the homepage of the one-and-only California Association of Blind Students (CABS), a proud division of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) of California. Here you will find a variety of helpful resources related our organization and to all aspects of blindness. If you are a blind student thinking about or already pursuing higher education, a parent of a blind student, or someone looking for information on blindness, this site is the perfect place for you to start.

The goal of the California Association of Blind Students (CABS) is to answer your questions and address your concerns regarding the education and related services that blind students receive. We change what it means to be a blind student, educate others about blindness, and teach blind students the alternative techniques for gaining a fulfilling education, preparing them for satisfying careers and bright futures.

You can find out more about CABS or the NFB, contact the CABS board, or check out more resources related to blindness and education by clicking on the following links. If you would like to join us, simply fill out our CABS Registration Form and mail it (along with five dollars) to the specified address. An online form will be available soon!

Thank you so much for checking out our site. We hope you will become a part of our voice and our movement. In the meantime, be sure to check out the official CABS flyer! Please spread the word to your sighted and blind friends alike--spreading awareness is what keeps our division alive.

Becoming A Member of CABS

The members of CABS are what keep this division alive. We tend to have a high turn-over rate because most people do not remain students forever. We fervently hope that you will consider becoming a part of our voice and our movement. To join CABS, simply fill out the membership form and send it to the specified address, along with five dollars. We hope to have an online form available soon.

To become a member of CABS, there are only a few qualifications. You must be a student currently enrolled in California, and you must pay your dues, which are five dollars per year. That's right--only five dollars once a year! You can be a high school student, in undergraduate or graduate school, a doctoral candidate or non-traditional student, or just taking a class for fun--as long as you are a student enrolled in California, we would love to have you! If you have questions about the membership process, feel free to reach out to the board, whose information can be found by clicking on the "Contact Us" link below.
